Neither dairy allergy or celiac disease are examples of a food intolerance. A food intolerance is unlike an allergy because it does not affect the immune system. While food intolerances do have some similar symptoms as a food allergy, they are much less severe and cannot result in anaphylaxis. Food intolerances are often uncomfortable, but not fatal.
